Why you need battery-powered underground loader/scooptram/LHD?Tethered electric LHD has existed for more than 50 years, diesel LHD even has a longer history. They are manufactured by Sandvil, Epiroc and many other companies. Therefore, the hard rock mining industry is familiar with them. But,diesel LHD and electrically techered LHD present many problems to the mine operator.
One of the key issues faced in operating heavy machinery in underground mines is DPM(diesel partucykate matter). When using diesel LHD, miners have to pay a lot to establish ventilation infrastructure. Also tethered electric LHD can solve this problem by replacing the engine with a propulsion motor.Its flexibility is still limited because of the cable. The cable is easy to be cutted down and wear, because of the high tension.
As battery technology advances, benefits will accrue for replacing them with battery-powered scooptram in underground mining.
